STRC vs SATA for residency visa income floors
Compare dated dividend rates from each issuer, how often each pays, US return-of-capital notes (Form 8937), and which verified passive-income visa floors a given share count clears. Re-check issuer pages before you rely on a rate. Dividends are not guaranteed.
Risk: STRC and SATA are perpetual preferred stocks, not bank deposits and not FDIC insured. Principal is not guaranteed. Dividend rates are set by each issuer, can change, and cash dividends are payable only when, as and if declared. Past payments do not guarantee future payments. Preferred claims are not collateralized by the issuer’s bitcoin (Strategy states this explicitly for its preferreds). This page is general information, not a recommendation to buy or sell either security.

Which verified visa floors clear at N shares?
Method: Monthly illustration = stated annualized rate × US$100 × shares ÷ 12. Only programs with verified numeric floors and verified dividend acceptance (Yes). FX approximations use rates dated 2026-10-26. Clearing the dollar floor is not immigration approval; proof rules, banking, and consulate practice still apply. Programs that require a pension only (e.g. Panama Pensionado) are excluded here — preferred dividends do not substitute.
Share counts shown: 1,000 and 2,500 (enough to show STRC vs SATA gaps). Use the YieldVisa Calculator for other counts.

STRC vs SATA FAQ
What is the difference between STRC and SATA for visa income?
Both can produce documented USD preferred distributions that some rentista or passive-income visas accept as dividend or investment income. What differs for visa matching: stated rate (STRC 12.00% Oct 2026 period vs SATA 13.00% Nov 2026 period — dated issuer sources above), pay frequency (STRC semi-monthly vs SATA every business day), and how bank statements look to a consulate. Yield alone is not enough — match cashflow to a verified floor and that program’s proof rules. What are the current STRC and SATA dividend rates?
STRC: 12.00% regular rate per annum for the Nov 1–30, 2026 period (Strategy 8-K Oct 15, 2026: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1050446/000119312526423400/mstr-20261015.htm). SATA: 13.00% stated variable annualized rate as shown on https://strive.com/sata/ and kept for Nov 2026 periods in Strive’s Oct 12, 2026 8-K. Pair each rate with a date and issuer link. Rates can change; cash dividends are not guaranteed. Last verified 2026-10-29.
How often does each pay?
STRC: semi-monthly cash (issuer schedule). SATA: every business day since June 16, 2026. Sources: strategy.com/strc/learn; strive.com/daily-dividend/ · Last verified 2026-10-29.
Are STRC / SATA distributions return of capital for US tax?
Issuers have been filing Form 8937 stating many distributions are expected nontaxable return of capital to the extent of basis (excess = capital gain), based on estimated zero E&P. That is an issuer estimate, not a guarantee, and can be corrected. Strategy hub: https://www.strategy.com/investor-relations/dividend-return-of-capital. Strive examples: Form 8937 PDFs linked above. Not tax advice. See /tax/strc-return-of-capital/ and /directory/cpas/. Last verified 2026-10-29.
Does return-of-capital labeling help or hurt a visa application?
Not yet verified as a single rule across countries. US tax character (ROC vs dividend) is not automatically the same as how a foreign immigration authority classifies “income.” Show bank credits, issuer notices, and whatever the consulate checklist asks for. Do not assume ROC helps every program.
How many shares do I need for Portugal D7 or Costa Rica Rentista?
Use the YieldVisa Calculator with live share counts. Under the illustration above (rate÷12, verified floors, FX 2026-10-26): Portugal D7 (~US$1,029/mo) needs more than 1,000 STRC shares at 12% but 1,000 SATA clears on this math; Costa Rica Rentista (US$2,500) needs about 2,500 STRC or fewer SATA shares at 13%. Re-verify floors and rates before applying. Calculator: https://yieldvisa.com/
